Your Questions About Selling Gold

Mandy asks…
Do Goldline’s customers realize they got ripped off? Buying coins for 2x melt value?
Instead of purchasing gold at the per ounce price, goldline sells coins at nearly twice the price of gold.
Meaning despite gold‘s high prices now, it would have to double in price before any gains are made.
Is this why some conservatives are desperate for the economy to fail?
Hoping gold increases in value so they can salvage money they wasted on goldline’s collector coins?

Gold Smith answers:
Hucksters will never go away. Unfortunately, neither will suckers. P.T. Barnum was right, and Goldline and thieves like them count on it. Anyone helping them should be ashamed.

Susan asks…
Where can I buy gold?
I know that the value of gold goes up and down, much like a stock, but i was wondering where can i buy gold at that price, for example the value of gold today is $800 per ounce, where can i buy gold at that price? I was thinking a bank but i dont know.

Gold Smith answers:
I think the prices you see quoted in that way are what the brokers are buying and selling for. You trade commodities on exchanges, like the ASE, NASDAQ, the Tokyo markets, etc., but you don’t have an ounce of actual gold when you buy one that way.
Unless you go buy it at a pawnshop or a jeweler’s, and then you’ll pay more than that $800 per ounce, retail.
You can buy gold coins, though, through coin dealers. But again, a one-ounce coin will cost you more than the $800/oz price.

Sandra asks…
What can this chart tell us about the value of the dollar over the past 10 years?
“Gold Ounces per U.S. dollar”
http://fx.sauder.ubc.ca/cgi/fxplot?b=USD&c=XAU&rd=*&fd=1&fm=1&fy=1990&ld=31&lm=12&ly=2011&y=daily&q=volume&f=png&a=lin&m=0&x=

Gold Smith answers:
That something happened in 2001 that destroyed the American economy.
According to right-wing views that must have been the election Obama, being foreseen by Nancy Reagan’s astrologist hot line.
If you look at the exchange rate against almost any other currency, the chart will look pretty similar, so I’m not sure why everyone is hung up on a gold standard.

Your Questions About Selling Gold

Linda asks…
Working out Zakat, can anyone help?
Im trying to work out the Zakat we need to pay and im using the online zakat calculators..
They all ask for the today‘s price of Gold.
Does anyone know? Im in the UK.
Also do i need to add in wages coming in at a later date? And deduct any bills etc going?
Any help Jazakallah.

Gold Smith answers:
Actually Zakat is on the wealth like Money,Jewelry (other than precious stones) money in your accounts, if you in business than value of Trading products. All that must be in your custody for an year.
You have a day to remember. On that day you calculate the value. Every year. Like 1st of Ramadhan, every year. It Is obligatory to remember that day every year. So every year do calculate things on that day.

Sandy asks…
Gordon Brown sold 60% of the UK’s gold reserves for $3.5bn, today it would be worth about $12.5bn…?
How on earth can anyone say he was a prudent chancellor? What was behind his reason to sell the UK’s gold reserves at a historically low price?

Gold Smith answers:
Considering our Country was £618.8 billion in debt as of March (the current crisis is likely to make this figure reach £1 trillion) and it is estimated that personal debt is £53,000 per household (£1.3 trillion), then gold is the least of our worries but, the best example of how incompetent he is.
I can understand the logic in wanting to sell the gold into something that could be used to gain interest or reduce the governments interest. However considering that the debts are so high and the value of the gold is so low in comparison, it just doesn’t make sense, considering how important a lifeline gold is in the worst of times.

Michael asks…
UK; Is Gordon Brown really at fault for selling Gold at the bottom of the market in 99-02?
I am increasingly annoyed at the constant flack GB is getting for selling the UK’s national reserves of Gold between 99-02 at the so called bottom of the market.
I feel that that the criticism of the decision has cost the UK £7 billion yet this is misleading that is TODAY‘S price not the price at the time the reserves were sold.
If it turns out there were political shenanigans going on, like secret deals with Goldman Sachs, the International Banking Establishment, or to manipulate the gold/$ price, then yes, this decision was flawed.
However taken in the context of prices at the time and the government needed some cash for what ever reason then its hardly fair to criticise the man.
Its always easy to say; “should have done” with hindsight. Yet GB wasn’t to know the future price of gold would be 4 x the price nearly a DECADE later was he ?
no one truly knows the top or bottom of any market do they ?
Is $1600 an ounce the top of the market ?
Oops! should say 5 – 6 x the price nearly a decade later.

Gold Smith answers:
He didn’t sell it at the bottom of the market, he sold it at the market rate of the day. He also invested the money made by selling gold in foreign currencies and other bonds as he thought they would out perform gold over the foreseeable future.
If his other investments had out performed gold in market growth it would have been a good thing and he would have been praised.
If gold out performed his other investments in market growth it is a bad thing and he would have been criticised.
However the simple fact of the matter is we don’t know what has happened to his investments due to secrecy (why it is a secret I have no idea) but I suspect that it has performed roughly in line with gold as if it had massively out performed gold Brown and Labour would have told us prior to the election to demonstrate how good their financial judgement is – on the other side if it had massively under performed gold Cameron and the tories would have told us after the election to demonstrate just how much of a clown Brown was.
But until these investments that were made are sold, we haven’t lost anything the money is still tied up just in a different product.

Lizzie asks…
What will the price of Gold and Silver be in 6 months?
GOLD
A) $2500
B) $2000
C) $1500-$2000
D) BELOW $1350
SILVER
A) $100
B) $60-$80
C) $40-$50
D) BELOW $25

Gold Smith answers:
I buy both gold and silver at all price levels. I have no idea what the price of gold and silver will be in 6 months. But I do know that it wont go to $0.00 and that is why I buy it.
Gold and silver is money and a store of value. It is the “Currency of last resort” as Greenspan has stated many times through the years. Gold doesn’t pay interest, dividends, doesn’t restate earnings, has no lawyers, accountants, CEOs or CFOs lying to you on television. Gold doesn’t ask for bailouts, doesn’t go Bankrupt and cannot cook its books. Gold cant be debased or printed at the will of a company or government and holds its purchasing power.
Gold sits there as a store of value, is labor intensive, and a one ounce coin will not split into a bunch of half ounce coins at the direction of the “Pin Striped Bandits” on Wall Street. Also Gold is the ONLY asset class in the last ten years to increase in value and retain every dollar of its purchasing power.
Can gold go down? Yes. However that would mean that all essential goods and services must fall as well. Gold is and acts more like an insurance policy. You are insuring that something in your portfolio can never go to $0.00. All paper assets have the ability to go to $0.00. This is what you are insuring against.

Donald asks…
What is the name of the institution in Hong Kong that sets the daily spot price for gold and silver?

Gold Smith answers:
The Chinese Silver and Gold Exchance Society:
The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society operates in Hong Kong as a registered society. At present, we have 172 member firms which are sole proprietorships, partnerships or limited companies. Among these 172 firms, 30 are bullion group members. Bullion group members who want to manufacture good delivery bars may apply for the qualification of accredited refineries. Upon accreditation, these member firms may produce 99% fineness 5-tael gold bullions and 999.9% 1-kg gold bullions for delivery on the Exchange. The bullions they produce also circulate widely in the open market. To encourage more industry players to participate in spot gold market, we accept settlement accreditation applications from non members. The Members General Meeting is the highest authority of the Exchange. Twenty one members of the Executive & Supervisory Committees are elected once every two years in June. In this biannual election, each member firm has one vote. When the Members General Meeting is adjourned, the Executive & Supervisory Committees are the highest decision-making authority. They are responsible for implementing policies, effecting development plans and monitoring their effectiveness. To ensure effective performance of the many tasks of the Executive & Supervisory Committees, there are several subordinate groups. Administration work of the Exchange is carried out by the General Manager.

I’ve been looking at a commodity investments and would like some opinions ta.

Gold Smith answers:
I’ve just started investing in silver coins because I believe that silver is consistently improving. Not so sure that I believe that silver will dwarf gold but I think it’s a great investment at the moment.
I have some links on my blog that offer support for investing in silver at the moment and help to explain my reasons for doing it..

Nancy asks…
Will the timing of the SEC charges against Goldman Sachs help the financial reform legislation?
Financial reform legislation is being debated this week, and the SEC charged Goldman Sachs with fraud on Friday.
Maybe Goldman Sachs will be found guilty eventually, but the timing just seems very interesting. It is like the uproar about one insurer’s request for a 39% rate hike in California just before the final vote on health insurance reform.

Gold Smith answers:
No.
This Administration brings out some dirty laundry every time they want to enforce some new
restriction on the populace. Blow something up like a balloon, way out of proportion to the problem, to accomplish their end goal; the end justifies the means. If the laws already in place were enforced, we would need no more but that would not give the Administration more power and that is what those supported by the Unions want, more power. Those who are political are beginning to understand that and the Administration is viewed with less and less respect. Union heavy handed smears and tactics, imo.

Steven asks…
Where can I get a job application for Goldman Sachs?
I applied for a personal banker position at the bank down the street from where I live. It would be great to work near home. However, once I told them my salary requirements they swiftly said that I should apply at Goldman Sachs and that was the end of my interview.
I couldn’t find Goldman Sachs in the phone book. Do you know where I can pick up their application?

Gold Smith answers:
You can try this Web-site;
http://www2.goldmansachs.com/careers/index.html
but, it sounds like your requirements were too high and they decided you wouldn’t work out for them.
Good Luck.

Jenny asks…
How old do i have to be to be in the Goldman Sachs summer internship?
I’m looking forward on becoming an Analyst and working at Goldman Sachs. I want to be in the summer internship program to raise my chances. I’ve been accepted to University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.. I’m currently in my summer vacation right now and going to college soon. What do i do?? I need help and advice? Is it a good idea to work at Goldman Sachs?

Gold Smith answers:
It’s an excellent idea.
Two things to consider:
Of course it’s already too late for this year. You should actually be trying for next year now.
Internships at Goldman Sachs are highly sought-after and a number of them go to the children of brokers and advisers there and other brokerage houses.
In the meantime, draw up a list of other places where you might like to intern. When you get to school, ask your professors about internships. Don’t talk to just one person and remember to ask the students who’ve interned to see what they think.
Good luck! If you get in and stay in at Goldman, you’re set for life.

How can i customize my car to the max?
I just got my first car and i don’t really know much about cars it is a 2002 Saab 9-5 linear turbo i want to improve its performance basically i want it to move faster and have that racing style look to it and I’m open to any other ideas like i said I’m new to cars so prices and ideas from Saab owners or anybody with history of modding their car would be a great help i wanted to upload a picture but i was having problems so ill give you guys a picture of what it looks like its silver with black tint and black rims i want it to look better feel better and drive better thanks.

Gold Smith answers:
An easy answer for handling is light rims with low proffile tires. Tire rack .com can help you figure out what sizes will fit. For performance, since it’s already turbo’d, look at the exhaust first, something more free flowing, but it needs to be tuned to provide enough back pressure to the engine. You can find some chip hacks for this car that will add instant performance increase. Also look at Intake and intercooler upgrade, the colder the air leaving the turbo is, the bigger power jump
beyond those it begins to get seriously expensive. Good luck and have fun.

Donna asks…
Can someone please explain to me the correlation between inflation and rising prices?
and how would this help someone pay off their debt? in my history book, debtors during the panic of 1873 wanted inflation through greenbacks and more coinage of silver. this way they’d be able to pay off their debts. this is what the book says but i dont see how. why would debtors want rising prices?

Gold Smith answers:
Inflation is the general rise in overall price level so when there is inflation, most goods and services such as groceries and accounting services would increase in prices.
Debtors would want inflation as rising prices means that their payment to creditors is less in the value of goods purchased. For example, a credit payment of one hundred dollars could purchase twenty apples while during inflation, a credit payment of the same amount could only purchase two apples. As a result, inflation is good for debtors as it seems like they are paying less.

Sharon asks…
Do you agree with this 135 yr old US Senate report on why Europe fell into the Dark Ages (ie not Christianity)?
The report was about silver (in 1873 the Senate passed the Coinage Act, in which silver was demonetized) and the depression following the Civil War. But its a long report and it covers their reasoning behind the collapse of the Roman Empire.
United States Senate Report No. 703
44th Congress, Second Session
Reports of the Silver commission of 1876 (page 49/50)
http://www.archive.org/details/reportsofsilverc00unit
“At the Christian era the metallic money of the Roman Empire amounted to $1,800,000,000, by the end of the fifteenth century it had shrunk to less than $200,000,000. During this period a most extraordinary and baleful change took place in the condition of the world. Population dwindled and commerce, arts, wealth and freedom all disappeared. The people were reduced by poverty and misery to the most degraded conditions of serfdom and slavery. The disintegration of society was almost complete.… History records no other such disastrous transition as that from the Roman Empire to the Dark Ages. Various explanations have been given of this entire breaking down of the frame-work of society, but it was certainly with a shrinkage in the volume of money, which was also without historical parallel. The crumbling of institutions kept even step and pace with the shrinkage in the stock of money and the falling of prices. All other attendant circumstances than these last have occurred in other historical periods unaccompanied and unfollowed by any such mighty disasters.”

Gold Smith answers:
It would appear that the majority of the members of the “Silver Commision” would have difficulty earning a passing grade in a first semester introduction to economics course.
Wealth is a matter of productive capacity and productivity, not pieces of shiny metal. By destroying the classical education the productive capacity and productivity of Christendom was severely reduced.

Is GoldStar a good brand for a clarinet?
I used to play clarinet throughout my high school years, and was in the marching band. I used to have a yamaha, when i rented. I miss it very much. Well, is Goldstar a good brand for a clarinet?

Gold Smith answers:
Nope!
One of my current students has one, in 6 months time it has lost 7 pads, a tenon cork, the bridge key has bent and is softer than better brands so it will bend again,…plus it plays flat (very bad for clarinets).
Buy a yamaha, selmer, buffet, king, amati,…

Jenny asks…
What sized loaf does a GoldStar HB-020E breadmaker make?
I found a bread machine in the bottom of my husband’s closet and would like to use it, but there’s no manual. I found instructions on the order you put the ingredients into the pan,but not what size pan it is…and that’s important.
Does anyone know what sized loaf the Goldstar HB-020E breadmachine makes? I’ve found the manual on-line, but they want to charge for the download. Thank You!

Gold Smith answers:
Instructions
things you’ll need:
3/4 cup water
2 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon dry milk
1 and 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
2 and 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast or 1 teaspoon fast rise yeast
Oven mitts
Wire rack
Get what you need for every
project at HomeDepot.com
1
Pull open the lid of the Goldstar HB-020E bread maker, grip the handle of the bread pan, turn it to the right and pull it out of the machine.
2
Slide the notched kneading blade onto the edge of the bread pan.
3
Pour the water into the bread pan and then add the remaining ingredients, except for the yeast. Add the yeast to the bread pan last.
4
Insert the bread pan back into the bread maker with “Front” facing the front of the machine, and twist it to the left to lock it in place.
5
Close the Goldstar HB-020E lid and plug the machine into an electrical outlet. The display on the machine will light up.
6
Press the “Program Select” button until the “Basic Bread” indicator light turns on, and then press the “Baking Control” button to choose “Light,” “Medium” or “Dark” crust.
7
Push the up arrow button next to the word “Timer” to set how many hours and minutes you want to wait for the baked bread, and then press the “Start” button. For example, if it’s 3 p.m. And you want the bread completed by 9 p.m., press the up arrow button until “6:00″ shows on the screen, since it’s six hours until you want the bread. If you don’t want to use the timer feature, press the “Start” button after selecting the program and crust type.
8
Press the “Stop” button for one second when the bread has finished. Remove the bread pan from the machine while wearing oven mitts, tip the bread pan over a wire rack and shake the pan until the bread slides out. Allow the bread to cool before serving.
This is all I could find. Hope it helps!

Michael asks…
How do I connect my N64 to my Goldstar TV?
Its pretty ancient.. ’93 I believe. And surprise, I’ve lost the remote in those 17 years. I have a cheap dvd player too but I can’t seem to get the Nintendo working through either of them. Any ideas?

Gold Smith answers:
See if your tv has yellow-video, red/white-audio inputs in the back. If so, just hook those same colored RCA cables into the N64′s output holes, and choose the Video 1? Input on the tv. Whatever it says under those input holes on the back of the tv is the input to choose from your remote to bring that input up on the tv. If you don’t have a remote, look for a menu button on the front of the tv and start pressing it.
If all your tv has is a cable input, you’ll need an rf modulator to use the N64.

Sandra asks…
What color goes with polished gold brass fixtures?
Hello everyone,
We are currently taking off alot of wallpaper in a new home we just purchased. We would like to replace the really large mirror and two polished gold light fixtures with two smaller mirrors and 2 more “up to date” light fixtures. All hardware in the house is the 1990′s polished gold. I dont want to change out all hardware in the house, so what metal color goes with the gold brass? If possible I dont want to have to put gold fixtures up again. I read somewhere that your house fixtures should match with the same finish?

Gold Smith answers:
I think you could get away with using the oiled bronze for light fixtures, cabinet knobs, etc. You do not say what color wood cabinets/bath vanities you have–maybe a white washed framed mirror or wood framed mirror as an alternative to the metal. Your attention would be drawn to the darker oiled bronze and the brass hinges on the doors, etc. Would not be noticeable. If you have those “Hollywood makeup mirror lights”, get rid of them–they are so dated.

Ruth asks…
What type of gold do you believe compliments an onyx stone best?
Hi, I would like to know your opinions on what type of gold you believe compliments (or matches) a black onyx stone best – Yellow Gold or White Gold? I am purchasing a “class ring” and am still unsure of whether 14k white or yellow goes looks best with the stone. Thanks for your opinions.

Gold Smith answers:
I am a jeweler and My preference is yellow gold, with white gold people will often say ” lovely silver ring”, but if the silver look is your style then White Gold is best as it is harder wearing and stronger than silver. Rose gold is also OK.
Black onyx is complimented by most colors.
Don’t skimp on the gold. Solid is better than a cheaper hollow ring.

Donna asks…
What are gold fillings made of and what other materials are used to make them adhere to the cavity in the toot?
I am thinking of replacing some of my amalgams with gold fillings. What in addition to gold are they composed of and what material makes them ‘stick’ into the dental cavity as a filling?

Gold Smith answers:
You absolutely do NOT want to put gold in your mouth and you need to get rid of those Amalgam fillings. The amalgam leaks mercury vapor and damages your health. If you do NOT believe this, look at this video and then when your dentist or someone ignorant of this issue tells you they are perfectly safe, you will know what to tell them:
http://www.milldental.com/millennium/webvideo/MercuryDanger/SmokingTooth_200k.wmv
Now watch this 5 minute video of how mercury destroys brain tissue. This study was done by a very credible school and verified by the University of Tennessee.
The amount of mercury used in this study was 100 to 1,000 times less than what you get when you brush one tooth over amalgam! If you put gold in your mouth, the mercury leaves at a rate 80 times faster due to the electrolysis created. NOT A GOOD IDEA. In fact, you need to see a GOOD dentist that will remove the amalgams safely that understands the problems with removing them and your health.
ALL amalgam fillings have infection under them, ALL OF THEM. Insist that your dentist follow the correct procedure for removal and then replace them with bondable CERAMIC that has a hardness of 300, the same as your original teeth.
Good luck to you
